Zambia is suffering from a severe drought that has Zambia is suffering from a severe drought that has destroyed over one million hectares of maize, nearly half of the nation's crop. President Hakainde Hichilema has declared it a national disaster and emergency.

This crisis unfolds against a backdrop of pre-existing food insecurity and escalating inflation along with the threat to safe water access raises the likelihood of water-borne diseases such as cholera, as well as malaria.

The UN has reported that Zambia possesses one of the highest rates of malnutrition in sub-Saharan Africa, with 35% of children under five stunted and 4% acutely malnourished or wasted.

Additionally, the stress from the drought is likely to increase gender-based violence and child marriage.

Our mission in Zambia is thus underscored as we persist in supporting local communities and providing for the 90 children attending Makangala Pre-school, a task we can accomplish only with our donors' support.

We are lucky to have supporters who are generous i We are lucky to have supporters who are generous in every way. Special thanks to Rachel, a long term supporter who is living in Lusaka for a year with her family. She visited the school in March and sent us some wonderful photos with glowing reports of our community programmes. She was delighted to get involved in the classroom. Thank you Rachel for taking the time to visit with your family and for delivering some much needed supplies. Thanks for Rachel's daughter, Savannah, for asking for equipment for the Makangala pre-school instead of birthday presents. We are grateful!

We believe happy children need healthy communities. So, we work with community members in remote areas of Zambia, providing training on sustainable agriculture, entrepreneurship and village banking schemes.

We also teach skills to help them support orphans and vulnerable children in their care, through bereavement counselling, child abuse protection and children’s rights. With a donation of just £15 a month, you can help too.

One of those ways is through the Good Goat initiative, which provides vulnerable households with goats and training in how to care for them. The milk produced by the goats provides income to feed, clothe, and educate children as well as a valuable source of nutrition. And as the herd grows, they are shared amongst other community members.

This sustainable programme is helping these children, and their communities have a brighter future. And you can help too.
